a lesson in history

its so much fun to find kitchen gadgets from the past. many of them are similar in size and shape to what we have nowadays, a lot of them have now been replaced by electronic appliances, but most of them are durable and well made (which is often rare to find today).

a few of the pieces we have found we have had to go to the grandparents to ask what on earth they were used for! but we have a lot of fun doing our own research as well, here are some great links if you are looking for vintage kitchen pieces or maybe you have some and would like to know more about them:

vintage storage solutions

we love vintage boxes and tins, whenever we see them we have to buy them! it's so neat to think of all the different things that came in wooden boxes and tins like pasta, tape and cigarettes, things that now come in cardboard boxes and plastic. we even have a two pieces that are just a couple years away from being antique!
these boxes and tins make great storage and still add the vintage touch to our rooms. the jars are great in the pantry for dry foods, or even in your garden shed for seeds. the pasta tins are long enough to store knitting needles and some of the other tins are great for buttons or other sewing notions or craft supplies.
when we purchase new things at the grocery store nowadays, we try and look for those tins and wooden boxes that we can keep and maybe one day someone will find them as treasures!      ~r&m

green... a dominant color in the 70's

a vintage pink compilation

tea cup collectables

one thing we love to collect is tea cups, maybe it came from our mom, an avid tea drinker
herself, or just the fact that every tea cup is particularly unique. some of these tea cups have been
passed on from grandparents, other's are from antique shops or other collectors.
some things to take note of if you are looking at starting your own tea cup collection:

-inspect the cup very thoroughly to make sure there are no chips or cracks (run your finger along all edges) check for fading, also check to make sure the handle hasn't been broken and glued back on
-check for a label on the bottom if it says "bone china" you know it's well made if it says "made in china" stay away!
-if it it has a number on the bottom then you know it is part of a small, distinct collection and is very unique
-make sure that the tea cup matches with the saucer, same color and pattern

"if you are cold, tea will warm you.  if you are too heated, it will cool you.  if you are depressed, it will cheer you.  if you are excited, it will calm you."  ~gladstone, 1865

vintage sewing treasures

this past summer i took a trip to alberta and in the little town of innisfail, i had a wonderful visit with my grandparents. as they are planning on moving very soon, my nana asked if i wanted to help "clean out" her sewing room. there i found wonderful treasures that belonged to her and my great grandma as well! hearing the stories of how they got to acquire such beautiful, random items such as buttons, lace and accessories was so amazing! talk about major vintage inspiration! and while i can't part with any of these items, i thought i can still share them with you to check out...     ~r

first post!!

lets start with an intro, shall we?
we are sisters, amanda (rose) and olivia (marie) who have a creative eye for finding treasure, and potential in those treasures. we collect vintage (20+ years old items) housewares, and furniture and refurbish them to re-sell.
we both have a passion for design; olivia is an interior designer, and amanda is constantly creating, and sewing together outfits, purses & bags  linens for the home and more!

we have recently decided to join the vintage market business, and we are excited for this upcoming year!
stay tuned to see some pictures of our recent finds!
